Hideaway Beach Club, Marco Island

A guard-gated residential community and private club on the northwest tip of Marco Island, at 250 South Beach Drive, covering more than 300 acres facing Big Marco Pass and Sand Dollar Island.

More than half of that ground, around 150 acres, is preserved wetland, lagoon and boardwalk, which is the organising fact about the place: most of Hideaway can never be built on, and the homes sit inside a preserve rather than beside one. The community holds roughly 600 to 625 properties across three types: single-family beachfront homes, golf villas, and low and mid-rise condominiums.

Private Gulf beach. Roughly 2.5 miles of it, reserved for members and their guests, with no public walk-in access. On an island where the public beach is the shared front yard, a private one is the community's defining feature.

And here is the distinction that matters more on this coast than anywhere else: Gulf-front is not the same thing as Gulf access. Hideaway sits directly on the Gulf and its natural lagoons rather than on interior boating canals, so there are no private residential boat docks inside the community. The water here answers the afternoon, not the boat.

That does not make Hideaway boatless. There is paddlecraft and kayak storage with launch areas for Marco Bay, and residents who own larger boats typically keep them at nearby full-service marinas such as Rose Marina. If a boat in your own backyard is the non-negotiable, Hideaway is the wrong community and Key Marco or the island's canal-front homes are where that search goes. Better to know that in one paragraph than after a tour.

Marco sorts on water first, and Hideaway holds the private-beach position. Key Marco is a different proposition entirely: a gated community of just over 130 homesites on its own island across Barfield Bay, with Gulf-access water and no golf. Cape Marco is the condominium answer, towers on Cape Marco Drive including The Belize. Goodland is a small waterfront fishing village nearby, treated as part of the Marco Island area, with waterfront dining and boating.
