Estero Planning Board Reviews Home Base's Proposed Veterans Clinic on Ben Hill Griffin Parkway

The Village of Estero's Planning, Zoning & Design Board addressed three separate development items at its meeting on September 15, 2026: Mission Grove of Estero, Home Base Estero and Woodfield, according to a notice published by the Village of Estero on its own website. The most detailed of the three, and the one that stood out, was a proposal from Home Base Estero for a new veterans clinic.

That is a specific, purpose-built clinical facility rather than a general medical office. The scale, two stories on two acres, is modest next to the retail and residential construction that has defined so much of Estero's growth over the past decade, which is part of why it is worth noting on its own rather than folding into a general development roundup.

Home Base is a nonprofit co-founded by Massachusetts General Hospital and the Red Sox Foundation, and Home Base Florida launched in 2014 as the program's first affiliate outside Massachusetts, according to Home Base's own published history. Its stated mission is treating what it calls the invisible wounds of war, meaning post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury, anxiety and depression, in veterans and service members.

Home Base Florida already operates in-person clinics in Fort Myers and Naples, with virtual care available statewide, according to the organization's own site. It partners with Lee Health to provide clinical care, wellness programming, education and research, all offered at no cost to those it serves. A dedicated Estero facility would put a purpose-built clinical building inside a market that has grown considerably in population without previously having one of its own.

The Village of Estero's notice places the site north of Everblades Parkway, east of Tiburon Way and west of Ben Hill Griffin Parkway. All three are established roads inside the Village rather than a new corridor being cut for the project. Anyone trying to picture the location without a map should think of it as sitting inside the built-up institutional and commercial core of Estero, not out at its edges.
