What Is Barefoot Beach?
A residential community at the north end of Bonita Springs, off Bonita Beach Road, on the barrier island strip between the Gulf of Mexico and the bay water behind it.
It is one of the Bonita Springs addresses people ask about by name rather than by category, which is usually a sign that the name itself is doing some work. Here it is, and not always in a helpful direction.

Is Barefoot Beach the Same as Barefoot Beach Preserve?
No, and this is the confusion worth clearing first.
Barefoot Beach Preserve County Park is a public park. The residential community is a separate thing that shares the name. They sit near one another, which is exactly why the two get run together, in conversation and in search results alike.
The practical consequence is that a search for the name returns a mix of park information, parking and access details, and property listings, and it is easy to read something about the park and believe it applies to the community. It does not. When you are reading about access, hours or rules, check first which of the two the page is actually describing.
This is the same shape of problem as Saltleaf down the road, where the community carries "Estero Bay" in its name and sits in Bonita Springs. A name is not an address.
What Kind of Water Is It?
Both, and which one you get depends on the address rather than on the community. That is unusual enough to be the main thing to understand about Barefoot Beach.
This is the barrier island strip, so there is Gulf in front and bay water behind. What that produces inside one gate is two genuinely different products.
Some homes sit on the beach, and so do condos. That is Gulf-front in the ordinary sense: the sand is the front garden.
Other homes have docks behind the house and Gulf access by boat. Not a community dock you walk to, and not a mooring somebody assigns you. A dock at the bottom of the garden, and a route out. There is community dockage as well.
So the useful question here is never "does Barefoot Beach have Gulf access" or "is it beachfront". It has both, and neither answer describes the whole community. The question is which of the two a particular property is, and that is worth settling before you tour rather than after. How Does It Compare With the Rest of Bonita Springs?
Bonita Springs sorts more usefully by water than by anything else, and Barefoot Beach sits at the coastal end of that sort.
Bonita Bay, Pelican Landing and Saltleaf are the bayfront club communities, all on Estero Bay, all gated with golf. The Colony is an enclave inside Pelican Landing. Inland, The Brooks and Shadow Wood Country Club are built around lakes and a large private club, with beach access that members reach by car rather than by dock.

Address by address, because on a barrier island the community name tells you much less than the lot does.
What I would establish with you: which of the two this property is, beachfront or a dock behind the house, since the community holds both and the listing language often blurs them; if it is a dock, the controlling depth at low tide and the route out; the flood zone and the elevation certificate, which matter more on a barrier island than almost anywhere else in this market and which drive the insurance number; what the association covers and what it charges; and the rental rules in writing if letting the property is any part of your thinking.
