Does West Bay Club in Estero Have Real Gulf Access, or Just a Beach Club?

Yes, but not from the part of the community most buyers picture first. West Bay Club sits in Estero along the Estero River and Estero Bay, and it holds two entirely separate connections to the water: a private beach club you reach by car, and a boat launch on the river that actually reaches the Gulf. The beach club sits on Little Hickory Island, on the Gulf itself, and you drive there. It has full-service dining and beach attendants, and it was rebuilt and expanded in 2024. It is a genuine amenity, and it is also not a boating connection. Nothing about owning a home at West Bay Club puts a boat at that beach.

River Park is the other piece, and it sits on the Estero River inside the community. It has its own private boat launch, a separate launch area for kayaks and canoes, and on-site boat storage based on availability. The river runs out to Estero Bay and from there to the Gulf, which is what makes River Park the actual water-access amenity, not the beach club.

At River Park, not at the beach. If a boat is part of why you are considering this community, River Park's launch and its on-site storage are the specific things to ask about, including availability, since storage there is not unlimited. This is the detail that separates West Bay Club from a community that only offers a view of the water.

No. The bay frontage itself is view only. There are no docks and no boat access directly from the bayfront at West Bay Club. A home that backs up to Estero Bay inside this community gets the water view, and the river launch is still the way a boat actually goes in and comes out, regardless of which part of the community the home sits in.

An 18-hole championship golf course designed by Pete and P.B. Dye, plus a golf academy, sits at the center of the community. The Bay House carries resort-style pools, a fitness center and lighted Har-Tru tennis, and dining runs from the Niblick Grille and the Signature Bar through to fine dining at the Golf House. The home product spans single-family custom estates, villas, carriage homes and luxury condominiums across several distinct neighborhoods, and Island West Bay is a newer luxury tower rising within the community, still under construction. West Bay Club sits close to Coconut Point Mall and has easy access to RSW airport, which matters as much to most buyers here as anything on the water.

Most of Estero's gated communities are built around a lake rather than a connection to open water. Corkscrew Shores, Corkscrew Estates, Verdana Village and RiverCreek are all lake communities with no boat access to open water. Grandezza is also a lake community, built around its golf course rather than the water. West Bay Club and Pelican Sound are the two exceptions: both connect to the Estero River, and both reach Estero Bay and the Gulf from there. Everywhere else in Estero, treat "on the water" as a lake until you confirm otherwise.

Three things, in order. First, whether the specific home you are considering is anywhere near River Park, since the launch and storage serve the whole community rather than sitting behind any one address. Second, current availability for boat storage at River Park, since that can change with demand. Third, whether you actually need boat access at all, since the golf course, the beach club and the rest of the amenity package stand on their own regardless of what is happening at the river. Confirming all three is exactly the kind of question that belongs in the buying process before you get attached to one address over another.

Pelican Sound, and it reaches the Gulf the same way, through the Estero River. Pelican Sound keeps member boats on site and launches from its own dedicated ramp with a separate dock and trailer parking.
