Where to Stay in Southwest Florida

Where to stay while you look, from the islands to the mainland.

Where should you stay while you look?

Somewhere in the market you are actually shopping, which sounds obvious and is the thing people most often get wrong.

Southwest Florida reads as one place on a map and does not behave like one. Naples to Fort Myers is a real drive, the islands are a different drive again, and a week spent commuting to the neighbourhoods you came to see is a week you do not get back. Pick the city first, then the room.

What follows is 26 places across the markets I work, grouped by city, with the address and the number. I have deliberately not written a paragraph about any of them. I sell real estate here; I do not run hotels, and an invented sentence of atmosphere would be worth nothing to you.

I am Kris Asquith, Broker Associate at Premiere Plus Realty, working across nine Southwest Florida markets. If you are coming to look at property and want to know which base actually suits your list, ask me before you book.

Where to stay in Naples

Where to stay in Bonita Springs

Where to stay in Estero

Both sit on Corkscrew Commons Drive, minutes from Coconut Point and Miromar Outlets, which makes them a practical base for looking at the Corkscrew Road corridor.

Where to stay in Fort Myers

Marriott Sanibel Harbour Resort is in Fort Myers, not on Sanibel. The address is 17260 Harbour Pointe Drive, Fort Myers 33908. It looks across to the island rather than sitting on it, and the name catches people out often enough to be worth saying plainly before you book.

Where to stay on Fort Myers Beach

Where to stay on Marco Island

All three sit in a row on South Collier Boulevard, at 400, 480 and 560, which puts them on the same stretch of Gulf beach within a few minutes of each other. Marco Beach Ocean Suites is the same place people still call Marco Beach Ocean Resort, so searching the older name will return it.

What else is worth knowing before you come?

Three things, and they are all about timing rather than rooms.

Season runs roughly November to April, and it changes everything: what a room costs, how far ahead you need to book, how busy the roads are and how many properties are open to view. Outside those months you will find it easier and quieter in every respect.

Give yourself more days than you think. Buyers routinely plan two days and need four. The communities look more alike on paper than they do in person, and the difference is usually something you have to stand in to notice.

Tell me before you come. If I know which week you are here I can line up what is worth seeing and, more usefully, tell you what is not. See things to do for what is on while you are here, and how buying works for what happens after.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Marriott Sanibel Harbour Resort on Sanibel?

No. It is at 17260 Harbour Pointe Drive, Fort Myers 33908, on the mainland looking across to the island rather than on it. The name catches people out, so check the address before you book if being on Sanibel matters to you.

Which city should I stay in while I look at property?

The one you are shopping. Southwest Florida looks compact on a map and does not drive like it: Naples to Fort Myers is a real journey and the islands are another one again. Staying in the market you are viewing buys back hours every day.

When is high season in Southwest Florida?

Roughly November through April. It changes room rates, how far ahead you need to book, traffic and how many properties are available to view. Outside those months everything is quieter and easier.

How many days should I allow to look at property here?

More than most people plan. Buyers often book two days and find they needed four. Communities that read as interchangeable online are not, and the differences tend to be things you have to stand in to notice.
